Last month Instagram officially launched its ability to hide “Likes” with the goal of giving users more control over their app experience and reducing the burden of social validation. Instagram content creators have been under great pressure from recent engagement drops, with some of them seeking content validation on their like counts. With this feature, Instagram is trying to take the pressure off the shoulders of creators and promote original content on the platform.
Will engagement decrease?
Recent studies show that page engagement decreased in countries with hidden Likes, such as Brazil and Australia. A reduction can lead the Instagram algorithm to prevent your content from appearing on the browse page, even after posting quality content.
How can you hide the “likes” in your posts?
To hide the likes of your posts you must visit the post and then click on “Hide likes”, after which people will not be able to see the likes. To hide the likes, you must perform a similar function in all your posts. There is no function to hide the likes of all your posts in one click. So if someone has 1000+ posts, they should go and disable likes on all of their posts.
Anyone can go to desktop mode and see your likes regardless of whether you choose to hide them or not. Hiding Likes also reduces the need to buy fake Likes on the platform, as content creators can now simply hide them.
